Response to WorkSafe BC on changes Workers Compensation Act

June 15, 2020

The Association of Consulting Engineering Companies British Columbia has responded to WorkSafe BC on the recent discussion paper: Adding Diseases Caused by Communicable Viral Pathogens, including COVID-19, to Schedule 1 of the Workers Compensation Act.

In the response, ACEC-BC raised member concerns on adding diseases caused by communicable viral pathogens (including COVID-19) to Schedule 1 by highlighting:

  1. Limited scientific understanding of the disease
  2. Narrowness of disease description frustrating employers

Alongside the Employers Forum, ACEC-BC has recommended that WorkSafe BC proceed with Option 1: Status Quo.
