What is the role of the ACEC-BC Board of Directors?
The ACEC-BC Board govern the Association on behalf of members throughout the year and are guided by our mandate to advance the business of consulting engineering in BC. Actions and decisions are deeply rooted in our values: Our members are energized when we collaborate, when our work is innovative, when we invest in our community, and when our words and actions ensure and inclusive environment. We celebrate diversity and strive for equity in all that we do.
The Board of ACEC-BC is responsible for setting the strategic vision for the Association and for supporting operations through financial oversight, as policy advisors, and through direct engagement with our Committees. Service to the Board requires a time commitment to support preparation and attendance of meeting and occasional events. The Board meet for two-hours approximately monthly between September and May (9 meetings) and attend a retreat for up to two-days in September. All Board members are expected to participate in the AGM and optionally participate in other ACEC-BC events including government and stakeholder engagement, Committee meetings, and member outreach. Directors are elected to serve a term of one to four years.
Who can serve on the ACEC-BC Board of Directors?
The Board is comprised of 10-14 Directors from ACEC-BC Corporate Member firms. A Director must be named as a Voting Member to be eligible to serve on the Board, and no more than two Directors can be appointed by any one firm.
Aligning with our Association values, we seek diverse voices to represent members and their interests. The Board remains committed to host regular (monthly) meetings on a virtual platform to encourage broader engagement across the province. We welcome nominations from all qualified candidates with experience, competence, and perspective on the business of consulting engineering in BC. Candidates should be reasonably familiar with ACEC-BC purpose and operations; prior experience with ACEC-BC (i.e., Committees, YPG, etc.) is considered a strong asset as is Board experience with other organizations.
The Nominating Committee will consider each candidate’s technical and governance experience in the context of the future needs and values of the Association, and relative to the skills and experience of continuing Directors.
Please note that candidates who self-identify will be asked to provide a letter of support from their firm unless they are the ranking senior officer for the firm in BC.
