McElhanney is seeking two proven, future-focused, and innovative leaders with strong business acumen and people leadership experience and a demonstrated ability to align multi-disciplinary operational teams with business objectives. The successful candidates will each spearhead our operations in either Vancouver and Langley or Surrey locations alongside two other seasoned Operations Leaders and 25 disciplinary leaders within the region.

You will lead a team of consulting professionals in an established and mature market, while identifying promising new opportunities to build out and develop in terms of expanded service offerings, clients and geographies. You will execute strategic objectives and meet Key Performance Indicators across McElhanney’s four cornerstones of People & Communities, Clients & Partners, Processes & Technology, and Financial. McElhanney’s Vancouver Region Engineering (VRE) comprises of four operational business centers (i.e. branches) located in three offices with highly experienced and dedicated multi-disciplinary professionals offering over 20 technical services. These are well-established, multi-division business centers continue to advance their growth and diversification strategy. The region’s four Operational leaders (2 existing + search for 2 more) and 25 disciplinary leaders work as a team with incentives that reward team behavior and performance while ensuring individual accountability. The four Operational leaders report to the Executive Vice President. The new Operations Leaders will manage a staff of over 70 professionals and have more than 5 discipline leaders directly reporting to them in their respective business centers.

What You’ll Be Doing:
You should have a progressive proven track record, skills and experience to be able to do the following duties of an Operational leader:

  • Entrepreneurial and collaborative style working with the Vice President, other Operational leaders and disciplinary leaders and direct reports to develop the annual regional strategic plan
  • Strong business acumen to translate the regional strategic plan into business objectives that aligns your team to sound operational outcomes and business results with a strong focus on people
  • Accountable for the overall achievement of shared Key Performance Indicators for the business center and region of our four cornerstones

  • Foster a strong, cohesive, branch culture that incorporates and prioritizes our shared commitments to employee development, safety, inclusivity, respect, integrity, project delivery excellence, and client satisfaction

  • Expand our markets, services, and clients through diversification
  • Attract, hire, train and retain strategic hires particularly for intermediate to senior levels
  • Creating an inclusive and diverse work environment where you have trained, mentored, coached others to grow their careers to push you, your team and others to the next level (i.e. succession)
  • Lead, support and adopt change, uncertainty and challenges in a positive fashion (i.e. technology, support systems, business processes, market, etc.)
  • Contractual acumen (terms, insurance, scope, schedule, fees, risks) to lead, review and sign proposals and contracts up to $2.5M in value in a broad multi-disciplinary context and support from others
  • Provide effective direction and input into managing and maintaining existing and new client and partner relationships
  • Identify, mitigate and trouble shoot challenges (i.e. project management, people, clients or partners)
  • Grow your career and leadership capability through development, mentoring and engaging work
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the Company the sharing in resources and information needed to position ourselves to win and delver excellent work
  • Involved in Industry and market activities that strategically add value to the company

Preference will be given to candidates that have:

  1. 15+ years’ experience in consulting with 5+ years of leadership experience of diverse multi-disciplinary teams
  2. A professional accreditation in a technical field applicable to our business
  3. Strong understanding of the Vancouver / British Columbia market
