Incorporating Climate Change Considerations for Project Scoping and Procurement

The ACEC-BC Sustainability and Climate Change Committee are pleased to release this guide, supporting our members and their clients to integrate climate change in project scope and procurement of consulting engineering services.

Why did the committee create the guide?

In working with their clients, consulting engineers recognize that many organizations want to consider how climate change impacts and interacts with infrastructure. However, many organizations are usure how to start, what questions to ask, and how to identify appropriate skills to support their efforts. This guide helps organizations get started by defining key terms, provides guiding questions, and directs users to other supportive resources. The committee’s goal is to enhance long-term resilience and sustainability of our infrastructure by ensuring that relevant climate factors are adequately considered and communicated with respect to the expected level of service of a project.

How was the guide developed?

This new resource was initiated and developed by the ACEC-BC Sustainability and Climate Change Committee through member input, engagement with partner organizations referenced in the guide, and experience with clients. The guide is intended to be easy to understand, promote general knowledge, and foster interest in learning more.
