ACEC-BC thrives thanks to more than 400 members who serve on our Board, on Committees and working groups, with the Future Leaders Network, and as appointees to partner organizations. Together, we build a community of common interests that helps us to advance the business of consulting engineering in BC.
Professional service with ACEC-BC supports our Association advocacy, offers the opportunity for members to develop skills, and builds profile for member firms and individuals. Committee members have influence and collaborate with partners like clients, regulators, and other associations to advance the business of consulting engineering in BC.
Engaging with an ACEC-BC committee or working group supports members to build new relationships and earn professional development hours as they collaborate with peers, partners, and clients.
About Committees and Working Groups
All Committees are appointed by and report to the Board. Committees and Working Groups are seeking members with competence or interest in the group sector or practice area, capacity to support the work of the committee, and an interest in collaborating with other consulting engineering professionals to advance the industry.
Committee and working group members are:
- Located anywhere in BC
- Employed by an ACEC-BC member firm in good standing
- Committed to upholding the purpose and values of the Association including the principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion and will work together to ensure the Committee membership reflects the diversity of ACEC-BC

Opportunities: ACEC-BC Committees and Working Groups
Several ACEC-BC Committees and Working Groups have capacity to add new members. The important work of these committees supports our core member experience and industry profile across BC.
AI in Engineering Practice Working Group
5 – 7 new members
Members have formed a working group to discuss the growing influence of AI in engineering practice. The group have adopted a purpose to support firms in responsible adoption of AI in infrastructure, design, operations, and consulting.
Profile: The working group currently includes members from small through very large firms, with most members working in technical practice at their firms.
Building Engineering
3 new members
The Building Engineering Committee supports consultation with government and regulators, develop practice resources, informs advocacy with regulators / permitting authorities, and encourages collaboration with partner organizations. The committee is an exceptional group of experienced building professionals who work effectively to produce content relevant to members and clients.
Profile: The Committee seeks to ensure all relevant building engineering disciplines are represented and are interested in meeting new members who practice civil and structural engineering, however, all relevant disciplines are welcome.
BC Hydro Liaison Committee
6 – 8 new members
The BC Hydro Liaison Committee is in the process of reconsidering their purpose and engagement with BC Hydro. The Committee is seeking 6 – 8 core members to advance this work and re-engage in collaborative meetings with BC Hydro. The committee purpose will focus on the relationship between our industry and BC Hydro as a client and may include the relationship between our industry and BC Hydro as a service provider. Updating the purpose will be up to the newly formed committee.
Profile: Committee members are active on BC Hydro programs and understand technologies like transmission, generation, safety systems, and utility regulation. Interest from members who engage with BC Hydro service coordination and planning is also welcome. The committee benefits from members who can leverage their professional experience to identify relevant shared interest topics.
Business Practices

The Business Practices Committee supports consultation with government and regulators, develop practice resources, informs advocacy with regulators / permitting authorities, and encourages collaboration with partner organizations. The committee is an exceptional group of experienced building professionals who work effectively to produce content relevant to members and clients.
Profile: The work of the committee is best supported by members with experience in any or all the following areas: contract review, procurement, risk management, labour market and fees. The committee benefits from a multi-disciplinary membership including engineers, insurance professionals, lawyers, and business owners.
Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
Open to new members
The Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee provides a forum for the exchange of information about EDI including awareness, understanding, application in technical practice, and developing resources on various EDI topics. The committee is seeking to expand the diversity of the committee, and its sub-committees, recognizing that different perspectives and experience will best support their objectives and our members.
Profile: The Committee is seeking members from across the province, and in particular members with lived and/or work experience related to indigenous engagement and accessibility. The committee also would like to engage members from smaller firms that may not have broad, internal programs and who therefore may bring direct perspective on resource development benefiting smaller firms.
Health & Safety Working Group
Up to 2 new members
This working group of Health & Safety leaders connect to identify and discuss HSE topics. The group rotate leadership based on topics for discussion. The meetings focus on learning and sharing information relevant to member safety programs. From time to time the group will support ACEC-BC to communicate safety information and review safety plans for ACEC-BC activities.
Profile: Participants should be HSE professionals with responsibility for HSE leadership at their firm.
Membership Affairs
Up to 3 new members
The Membership Affairs Committee serve as advisors to the Board and Secretariat on the member experience, including Association communications and marketing. The committee review and recommend member applications for approval by the Board and advise the Association on member facing processes. The committee have initiated new activities to support member on-boarding and engagement.
Profile: The Committee is seeking members with broad industry experience and familiarity with ACEC-BC membership, including members with experience in Business Development, Marketing and Communications as well as technical practice.
Metro Vancouver Liaison
Up to 3 new members
The Metro Vancouver Liaison Committee represents the interests of the industry with the federation and will participate in meetings with Metro Vancouver Directors and General Managers. Members wishing to join the committee are nominated for consideration and are selected by continuing committee members. Each firm may have only one seat on the committee.
Profile: The committee are seeking senior practitioners (or managers) active on Metro Vancouver projects and with sufficient experience to have well established contacts and relationships with the Metro Vancouver team. Ideally, ACEC-BC MV Liaison committee members are familiar with / known by the MV Directors and General Managers with whom we work to make progress on issues important to our industry.
Ministry of Transportation & Transit – Committee-at-Large
New members welcome
The Ministry of Transportation & Transit – Committee-at-Large (CAL) is a forum for members to share information like technical practice, procurement, and field observations. Every two years members of the CAL select the Joint Liaison Committee (JLC) who are a subset of the CAL responsible for representing the industry in meetings with the Ministry. The JLC are elected by the CAL and typically serve as members of the CAL prior to selection.
Profile: Any member active on Ministry programs is welcome to join the committee, although it is recommended to reasonably limit the number of people joining from your firm such that meetings can be managed on MS Teams and with appropriate allowance for discussion.
Municipal Engineering
Up to 3 new members
The Municipal Engineering Committee work together to promote fair, open, and transparent procurement practices, identify and review contract and procurement documents, and engage with municipal clients on behalf of the industry. The committee also supports presentation of municipal events for ACEC-BC members.
Profile: Members with sector specific experience and relationships with municipal clients are encouraged to submit their interest. The committee are interested in continuing to grow their membership outside the Lower Mainland including representation from the Thompson-Okanagan, Vancouver Island, and/or eastern BC.
Regulation Working Group
Up to 3 new members
This working group of Responsible Registrants connect to identify and discuss professional regulation. The working group engage with the ACEC-BC appointees to EGBC, provide feedback to EGBC on various programs, support development of ACEC-BC member resources about regulated practice, and collaborate with EGBC to support professional development.
Profile: Participants should be professional registrants with primary responsibility or a high degree of engagement with regulated practice including oversight of the PPMP and internal training.
Resources & Energy
Not accepting new members at this time
The Resource and Energy Committee (REC) represents and advocates on behalf of members involved in the resource and energy sector including providing advice to ACEC-BC and developing member resources. The committee are responsible for forming and fostering relevant relationships with partner organizations.
Profile: The Committee is seeking members with sector experience including mining/mineral exploration, biology, emergency preparedness, oil & gas, and environmental services. Committee members will be working together to connect with industry associations, regulators, and other partners; relationships with these partner organizations are valued by the committee.
Small Firms Council
Up to 4 new members
The Small Firms Council are the voice of smaller firms within the Association, providing valuable advice to the Board, Secretariat, and committees to ensure that our work supports all businesses. The Council release content for members, review the work of other committees, and make program and other recommendations to the Association.
Profile: The Council are seeking participation from members who work for small, private firms that are primarily (or solely) located in BC. Members with visibility of company operations are particularly valued.
Sustainability & Climate Change

The Sustainability & Climate Change Committee create opportunity for members to share information, advance, and advocate for practices and resources relating to sustainability and climate change.
Profile: The Committee welcomes practitioners with a passion for sustainability and providing climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies to clients.
TransLink Liaison
Up to 6 new members
The TransLink Liaison Committee represents the interests of the industry with TransLink, including participation in joint meetings. The Committee welcomes new members every two years based on a nomination and election process. Members wishing to join the committee are nominated for consideration and are selected for the committee based on a voting process. Each firm may have only one seat on the committee.
Profile: Typically, committee members are senior professionals with current experience on TransLink programs and familiarity with relevant issues including procurement response, planning, and technical practice. Committee member selection will be complete by early November and the committee will be closed to new members until 2027.
Transportation
Up to 2 new members
The Transportation Committee represent members who provide sector services to clients not represented by ACEC-BC liaison committees. The committee advise the Board, collaborate with other committees, and create member resources. Members also collaborate with clients like the Port of Vancouver to present member events and offer advice to the Transportation Conference Organizing Committee.
Profile: The committee is seeking members with sector project leadership experience with a focus on ports & marine, airports, and other sector programs that are not covered by our client liaison committees.
Transportation Conference Organizing Committee

The conference organizing committee are responsible for supporting presentation of the annual transportation conference. The committee includes representatives from our conference partners the BC Ministry of Transportation & Transit and TransLink.
Profile: The committee benefits from members who can leverage their professional network to identify conference speakers, topics, and to build a cohesive program. Committee members also act as conference hosts including speaking opportunities. Please note that members interested in joining will be invited to participate in planning the 2027 conference (join the committee in 2026).
Future Leaders Network
New members welcome
The ACEC-BC FLN welcome new volunteers who work for an ACEC-BC member firm and have been active in consulting engineering for less than 10-years. The FLN also appoint members to each of the other ACEC-BC committees on an annual basis. The FLN are particularly interested in building their membership on Vancouver Island, Prince George, and in the Thompson-Okanagan region.
