The ACEC-BC Nominations Committee is seeking candidates for our Board of Directors for election by members at the 2026 ACEC-BC Annual General Meeting.
Expressions of interest or referrals are now being accepted. Nominations will be accepted until April 17, 2026, for consideration by the Nominations Committee. The recommended candidates will be announced in accordance with Association by-law 6.4-7, or not fewer than 7-days prior to the AGM.
What is the role of the ACEC-BC Board of Directors?
The ACEC-BC Board govern the Association on behalf of members throughout the year and are guided by our mandate to advance the business of consulting engineering in BC. Actions and decisions are deeply rooted in our values: Our members are energized when we collaborate, when our work is innovative, when we invest in our community, and when our words and actions ensure and inclusive environment. We celebrate diversity and strive for equity in all that we do.
The Board of ACEC-BC is responsible for setting the strategic vision for the Association and for supporting operations through financial oversight, as policy advisors, and through direct engagement with our committees and other groups. Service to the Board requires a time commitment to for preparation and attendance at meetings and occasional events. The Board meet virtually for two-hours approximately monthly between September and June (9 meetings) with one meeting being in-person in Vancouver. Directors also attend a retreat for two full days in October. All Board members are expected to participate in the AGM and optionally participate in other ACEC-BC events including government and stakeholder engagement, Committee meetings, and member outreach. Directors are elected to serve a term of one to four years. Candidates for election are also candidates for appointment to the Board for a term of one year.
Who can serve on the ACEC-BC Board of Directors?
The Board is comprised of 10-14 Elected Directors from ACEC-BC Corporate Member firms. A Director must be named as a Voting Member to be eligible to serve on the Board, and no more than two Directors can be appointed by any one firm.
Ensuring diversity on the Board is a benefit to all ACEC-BC members. A broad mix of different perspectives and experiences allow the Board to tackle complex issues, meaningfully contribute to advocacy, and connect with our members, partners, and the ACEC-BC team. Diversity means both acquired diversity gained through experience, and the inherent diversity each of us possess through our lived experience. No individual on the Board can adequately represent all perspectives; the composition and our culture support the Board to be productive, representative, and to pursue opportunities that advance the business of consulting engineering in BC.
The Nominations Committee each candidate’s technical and governance experience in the context of the future needs and values of the Association, and relative to the skills and experience of continuing Directors. In making their recommendations, the committee routinely look at the candidate’s profession, path to practice, professional service commitments, firm, geographic location, and lived experience. In addition to a candidate’s application, the committee may request a meeting to get to know and better understand a candidate’s perspective.
