DESCRIPTION:The ACEC-BC Professional Development Committee invites you to a virtual PD event on Managing Construction Phase Risks!\n\n\nJoin the ACEC-BC Professional Development Committee on September 29 as we discuss Managing Construction Phase Risks with guest speakers Wilma Schreuders and Rob McLeod. \nThe construction phase of a project brings a design firm’s hard work to realization. By approaching this phase proactively\, Engineering and Architecture firms can exercise greater control over the interpretation of the final design\, address questions and problems as they arise\, and support the client’s objectives more effectively. But anyone who has been involved in construction phase services knows the process also has plenty of traps for the unwary—traps that can leave firms open to a professional liability claim. \nThis discussion includes an overview of AXA XL’s Risk Drivers research\, highlighting how many factors are linked or related to CA services. We will review the purpose and importance of CA services\, typical CA activities and best practices in each of these areas. The course identifies how to spot and manage disputes\, takes a look at project close-out procedures and wraps up with an opportunity for you to reflect on potential areas of improvement.  \nPD Hours: 1.5 hours \nCost: ACEC-BC member: Free | Non member: $15 \n \n\n\n\nAbout the speakers \nWilma Schreuders\n \nVice President & Head of Canada\n\, AXA XL Design Professional Group\n \nWilma Schreuders\, Vice President & General Manager with the Design Professional group\, a division of AXA XL.  The group specializes in providing Professional Liability Insurance to design professionals\, along with loss prevention services and education.  Wilma has dedicated her career to servicing the design community and their provincial and national trade associations.  Wilma overseas all aspects of the Canadian operation which includes setting premiums\, policy conditions and tracking industry and claims trends that will have both a positive and negative impact on the community.  In her spare time\, she enjoys assisting design firms with negotiating fair and insurable agreements along with holding education seminars.  She is a member of the Chartered Insurance Professionals and Professional Liability Underwriting Society.\n \nRob McLeod\, CAIB\, CIP \nProfessional Liability Insurance Broker\, Metrix Professional Insurance Brokers \nRob McLeod is an insurance broker with 10 years of risk management experience. He specializes in assisting architects\, engineers\, and construction professionals manage their risk exposures through education and quality insurance solutions.
