DESCRIPTION:February 25 | In-person in Kelowna\n\n\nJoin ACEC-BC’s Future Leaders Network for an in-person panel discussion on Marrying Design to Construction and the Importance of Design! \n\nSaskia Huesing \nEIT | Project Manager at Emil Anderson Construction \nSaskia Huesing’s passion for building impactful infrastructure led her to a career in civil engineering. After earning her B.A.Sc in Civil Engineering from UBC\, where she researched sustainable transport safety\, she joined Emil Anderson Construction in 2018 as a Project Coordinator. She quickly advanced to Project Superintendent in 2022 and Project Manager in 2024\, contributing to major heavy civil projects across British Columbia. Her work includes the Highway 5 Flood Recovery\, the award-winning Illecillewaet Four-Laning Project\, and the Highway 3 Bridge Replacement. She is currently managing a Trans-Canada Highway expansion near Revelstoke\, set for completion in 2027. \n  \nJames Kay \nPrincipal\, Specialist Engineer\, Alpine Engineering \nJames Kay is a Professional Engineer and Consulting Civil Engineer who moved to the Okanagan in 2011 with his wife Julie and children Ashley and Hunter. James has enjoyed a varied work career of private consulting firms\, municipal government\, and private utilities. ACEC was a huge part of his career\, as part of the inaugural YPG\, and serving on the Board of Directors. \n  \nKaren Sutherland \nWater / Wastewater Engineer\, McElhanney \nKaren is an experienced Senior Water & Wastewater Engineer and Project Manager with over 30 years of experience actively working on water / wastewater treatment projects. Karen has led projects through all capital delivery phases: concept design\, preliminary design\, detailed engineering\, construction\, inspection\, commissioning and operator training and administration. Full-time resident engineering work has included 6 months in Germany\, 4 months in northern Manitoba and 15 months in Ft McMurray. \n  \nBrad DeShane\nOperations Manager\, Emil Anderson Construction \nBrad started in the construction industry with Emil Anderson Construction as an engineering summer student in 2011 and worked his way up to his current role as Operations Manager. Throughout his career\, he has worked on various projects ranging in size from less than a million dollars on small civil works to over $1 billion on large Hydro Electric Projects. Brad’s main area of expertise is Large Highway Projects including scopes such as Bridges\, Major Earthworks and Drill and Blast operations. \n\n\n\nContinuing Education (CE) Hours: 1.5 hours \nACEC-BC is committed to providing a safe\, harassment-free space for all participants\, speakers\, and event staff.
