DESCRIPTION:June 23 | Virtual Event\n\n\nBuilding on last year’s gender equity workshop hosted by ACEC-BC in partnership with WCE Vancouver\, this event explores the broader impact of parental leave and everything that follows\, from childcare and career transitions to workplace culture. \nThe session will begin with a brief overview of current data and workplace policies shaping parental leave\, and their impact on retention and gender equity. A panel discussion will follow\, featuring industry leaders sharing personal experiences\, practical approaches\, and lessons learned navigating parental leave and return-to-work transitions. \nThrough storytelling and real experiences\, the conversation will explore what supports and policies worked well\, where gaps remain\, and how organizations can create environments where parental leave is seen as an opportunity\, not an interruption. \nThis event is free for ACEC-BC members! \n💡 Why Attend? \nParental leave is not just a moment. As a senior leader and parent\, Dave is a strong advocate for parental leave\, drawing on lived experience to highlight how time away strengthens families\, improves equity\, and builds more empathetic\, effective leaders and organizations. \nMaggie Smith\, Senior Geotechnical Engineer\, Klohn Crippen Berger\nMaggie Smith is a geotechnical engineer who has been helping mining clients develop and operate safe and sustainable ways to store and manage their waste for 17 years. She is originally from Toronto\, attended both Queens University and UC Berkeley\, and has called Vancouver home for 16 years. \nQuinn Crosina\, Division Manager\, Water\, Associated Engineering\nQuinn is a professional engineer with 20 years’ experience. Based in Vancouver\, she is the Division Manager for Water at Associated Engineering. In her time with the company\, she has worked to shape EDI initiatives\, with a focus on improving retention and progression of women professionals. Quinn and her husband strive to balance careers and life with their two children\, ages 10 and 14. She also enjoys an early morning workout\, a good book\, and planning her next trip. \nSophie Warwick\, Co-CEO & Co-Founder\, The Thoughtful Co.\nSophie Warwick is an experienced public speaker who delivers evidence-based keynotes and workshops on negotiation\, career advancement\, inclusive leadership\, and equitable workplace policies. She has facilitated sessions for organizations including Cambridge University\, Oxford University\, Stantec\, Wealthsimple\, Nokia\, Ledcor\, ISL Engineering\, ACEC-BC\, VRCA\, CFA Vancouver\, and Women in Transportation. With over a decade of industry experience and a Master’s in Structural and Earthquake Engineering from the University of British Columbia\, Sophie brings analytical rigor\, facilitation expertise\, and practical insight to every session.
