Robyn is passionate about sustainability and preparing our infrastructure for the impacts of climate change and is a member of the ACEC-BC Climate Change and Sustainability Committee and a Climate Advisor for Associated Engineering. \n \nJeremy Fyke\nCoordinator\, Data Products Office\, Environment and Climate Change Canada \nJeremy Fyke has a background climate science and services\, which includes a Geology degree and Climate Modelling MSc the UVic Climate Modelling Lab\, PhD work at Victoria University of Wellington (VUW) in New Zealand and postdoctoral and staff climate research positions at the US Department of Energy Los Alamos National Laboratory. Motivated to link climate science and public and private sector decision making via Canadian climate services\, Jeremy is a Coordinator with the Data Products Office at the Canadian Centre for Climate Services\, within Environment and Climate Change Canada. He is also Adjunct Professor at the Department of Geography at Simon Fraser University and the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences at Colorado University at Boulder\, and Chair of the Okanagan Basin Water Board Water Stewardship Council. He is a P.Geo. (Non-Practising) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC. \n \nAaron Coelho\nClimate Change & Water Resources Specialist\, Urban Systems \nAaron Coelho is a climate change specialist with a focus on community vulnerability / risk assessments and resiliency planning. Aaron’s strength lies in his ability to navigate the complex and sensitive nature of climate change and work directly with communities and stakeholders to develop adaptation plans. Many of Aaron’s projects involve both natural and built infrastructure and understanding how climate change will impact the interacting systems. He has had a 22-year career as a consulting civil engineer\, during which he has collaborated with six different firms\, three municipalities\, and a private utility. Though all this\, his focus has been consistent—land development for housing and infrastructure. James has taught both accredited term and short courses\, inspiring and guiding others towards a rewarding career in civil engineering. James has contributed to projects across the country and throughout the province\, with a particular fondness for the impact his work has had in the Okanagan. His commitment to service extends beyond his professional capacity\, as he has been actively involved in association boards and finds great satisfaction in giving back to the community. DESCRIPTION:June 22\, 2023  |  Virtual Event\n\n\nJoin ACEC-BC’s Young Professionals Group for a virtual event on Breaking Barriers: Achieving Accessibility\, Equity\, Diversity\, and Inclusion in Engineering Design. \nPD Hours: 1 hour \nCost: ACEC-BC member: Free | Non member: $15 \nOur guest speaker will be drawing from his experiences as an accessibility and inclusion advocate who has served on a number of committees within the Lower Mainland\, including TransLink’s Access Transit User’s Advisory Committee and the City of Vancouver’s Persons with Disability Advisory Committee.  Attendees can expect to come away from this session with a deeper understanding of actions that young professionals can take to achieve accessibility\, equity\, diversity\, and inclusion in engineering design and in their engineering community. \nAbout the speaker  \nYat Li\, Senior Accessibility Consultant\, Presidents Group \nYat Li is a Hong Kong-Canadian who was born without ears and is Deaf and Hard of Hearing. Despite facing immense obstacles in life\, Yat persevered through challenges and discovered that self-disclosure unlocks a world of possibilities. He is now a highly sought-after speaker in North America\, inspiring industry leaders that congenital disability does not define a person’s career path. Yat is an accessibility and inclusion advocate who travels the world\, speaking to thousands of senior leaders about the importance of diversity and inclusivity. Yat’s passion is to remove the stigma from hiring people with disabilities and inspire people to overcome every visible or invisible disability.
