DESCRIPTION:ACEC-BC’s Young Professionals Group invites you to a province-wide Jackbox Tournament and Social on Thursday\, June 2! \nJoin us in-person or online for an evening of networking and friendly competition to determine the Young Professionals provincial Jackbox champion. \nWho can attend?\nThis event is free to attend and open to all ACEC-BC Young Professionals. \nHow will the tournament run?\nThe games will start with regional knockouts and top players from each region will move forward to compete virtually for the provincial championship. The winner of the champions round will receive a grand prize and bragging rights as the funniest Young Professional in all the land! \nThere will be an overall cap in each region based on the number of players allowed per game and venue capacity limits\, so be sure to register early! Seats are limited and first come first serve. Previous to joining QM\, Kear has worked in consulting\, the public sector\, and academia. Kear is Métis/Chinese\, born and raised in the Canadian Prairies. His family was very involved with both of these communities and these connections remain important to him today. He is passionate about seeing Indigenous Peoples’ inclusion in all industries\, at all levels; he sees himself as much as an advocate as professional and supports multiple initiatives across the region and Canada. A graduate of the Civil Engineering Department at the University of Victoria\, Kear completed a Master’s degree focused on Aboriginal Housing and Community Energy Use. Although he has a technical background\, he excels at connecting technical professionals with local Indigenous resources to achieve the goals of a project in collaborative and exciting ways.

DESCRIPTION:Join ACEC-BC’s Equity\, Diversity\, and Inclusion Committee for a webinar on Working with Indigenous Communities for Successful Major Projects\n\n\nThe First Nations Major Projects Coalition (FNMPC) recommends having Indigenous-led environmental assessments\, tapping into Indigenous-led net-zero carbon policy frameworks\, and boosting access to capital so that low-carbon Indigenous infrastructure projects can secure equity ownership.\n \nJoin Angel for a presentation about how FNMPC is working with its Members on the creation of Indigenous designed and developed standards\, methods and guidance tools (“how to”) that are building major project development capacity amongst Indigenous communities\, industry\, government and more! Angel will also touch on a few key project development achievements.\n \n\n\n\nAbout the speaker \nAngel Ransom is originally from the communities of Nak’azdli Whut’en and Fort St. James\, BC but now lives in Prince George\, BC.  She is the Director of Operations and Impact Assessment Lead for the First Nations Major Projects Coalition. \nIt is her intentions today to bring her personal Indigenous roots and worldview\, along with her professional Indigenous Planning knowledge and experience background to the table. \nAngel is a UNBC Alumni with a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Planning.  She specializes in the very unique field of First Nations Planning in the areas of community development\, natural resources management\, and impact assessments of major projects. \nSome of her recent work include leading the development of the First Nations Major Projects Coalition’s: 1) ‘Major Projects Assessment Standard’ and ‘Guidance Appendices’; 2) Environmental assessment costing calculator; 3) ‘Guide to Effective Indigenous Involvement in Federal Impact Assessment’ and an 8-part video series that support the Guide. Joanna Shea has over 17 years of commercial and project negotiations experience in the natural resource\, utilities\, and infrastructure sectors. During that time\, has led over $2B worth of acquisitions\, divestments\, and contract negotiations. She has project managed and negotiated agreements linked to over $1B in capital projects in both Canada and the United States and held senior leadership roles in negotiations\, project management\, resource development and organizational restructuring. Joanna has a BCom from St. Francis Xavier University\, is a graduate of British Petroleum’s intensive in-house Conflict and Negotiations training course\, holds a Graduate Certificate in Project Leadership from Cornell University and is currently enrolled at the Harvard University Program on Negotiations.
