She joined the firm in 2009 after completing her studies at Queen’s University. Suzanne is activity in the geotechnical and consulting community\, as Past-Chair of ACEC-BC\, and incoming President of the Canadian Foundation for Geotechnique. She is one of Thurber’s Responsible Registrants and played a key role in developing the firm’s Quality Management Guidelines. \n  \nBernard Abelson\, Business Management System Manager\, McElhanney \nBernard has over 30 years’ experience in business development and multidisciplinary and multimodal transportation planning projects. He led the development of McElhanney’s Business Management System (BMS) which is the digitization of project processes\, and co-developed several Dashboards to aid project management and business data analysis. The BMS also facilitates Project Manager adherence to McElhanney’s award winning ISO 9001 certified Quality Management System which Bernard oversees. \n  \nJulian Vasquez\, Principal\, Senior Design Engineer\, Quality Management Lead\, PBX Engineering \nJulian has 24+ years of engineering experience in Canada and abroad. At PBX he completes field inspections & construction supervision in the majority of traffic signal and communication infrastructure installations projects in the Lower Mainland. He’s responsible for quality assurance on a large number of projects and was part of the team crafting PBX’s internal QA/QC manual. Thanks to him\, PBX usually exceeds client’s quality requirements and passes external audits with resounding success. \n  \nWil Hilsen\, Principal\, NHC \nWil is a Principal owner operating out of NHC’s Nanaimo office. Wil is a senior geomorphologist with over 20 years of industry experience applying geomorphology theory and knowledge to various coastal\, riverine\, and estuarine studies and design projects in southwestern BC.

She has been an invited speaker and guest lecturer on topics such as diversity\, inclusion\, and leadership. She was a founding member of Engineers and Geoscientists BC’s former Division for Advancement of Women in Engineering and Geoscience (DAWEG) and served on committees for the Canadian Coalition of Women in Engineering\, Science\, Trades\, and Technology (CCWESTT). \nLianna has been recognized for her contributions to promote diversity in the engineering industry. This year\, she received ACEC-BC’s Equity\, Diversity and Inclusion Award. \n  \n🎙️ About the Facilitators: \nChunpreet Sahota\, M.Eng.\, P.Eng.\, PMO\, Structural Engineer\, WSP \nChunpreet Sahota is a Structural Engineer at WSP in the Buildings group and is currently the acting Director of People and Engagement for the BC Structural team. She has 15 years of experience in the engineering industry and has had the pleasure of working on a variety of projects including schools\, cultural sites\, transit and transportation\, and government projects. Chunpreet was the inaugural winner of the ACEC-BC EDI Award for an Individual in 2021 and continues to be an active advocate at WSP and in the engineering community to curate spaces where all feel safe and welcome to bring their whole selves to everyday. \n  \nLeona Smith\, PMP\, Head of Discipline & Leading Project Manager\, COWI \nLeona Smith is a Leading Project Manager and Head of Discipline at COWI North America\, managing the project and contract management group in Canada. After graduating with a materials engineering degree and working as an engineer in Ontario\, she moved to British Columbia in 2011 and into project management in the BC consulting engineering industry. Leona is a former director of Women in Consulting Engineering Vancouver and continues to be involved with their mission to support and empower women in engineering.
